Removable Dentures

Removable dentures are prosthetic devices designed to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues, restoring your smile and making eating and speaking easier.

What is?

Removable dentures are custom-made dental appliances that consist of artificial teeth attached to a gum-colored acrylic base that fits over your gums and can be taken out for cleaning and while sleeping.

Who is it for?

Ideal candidates include individuals who have lost multiple teeth or all teeth due to decay, gum disease, or injury, and who may not be suitable for dental implants or fixed bridges.

What are the benefits?

Benefits include restored ability to chew and speak properly, improved facial appearance by providing support for lips and cheeks, boosted self-confidence, and a more affordable tooth replacement option.

Is it painful?

There will be a learning curve when adjusting to the new dentures. You will have multiple visits after your final denture delivery appointment to make necessary adjustments until your denture fits with no pain. The fitting process is not painful. New denture wearers often experience some initial discomfort and increased saliva flow as your mouth adjusts, but this typically subsides within a few weeks and with necessary adjustments.

  • First Steps?

Treatment begins with a comprehensive oral examination, taking impressions of your mouth, and discussions about your preferences for the appearance of your new teeth.

  • What to expect on the day?

After taking initial impressions to send to the lab, there will be 3-4 try in appointments before receiving your final dentures. These appointments will have teeth set up in wax. This will allow the dentist to make any movements or changes prior to final processing in the lab. During your delivery appointment, your dentist will place the finished dentures in your mouth, check for proper fit and comfort, make any necessary adjustments, and provide detailed care instructions.

  • Recovery?

Adaptation typically takes several weeks. You'll need to practice eating and speaking with your new dentures, starting with soft foods cut into small pieces and gradually progressing to more challenging foods.

Can it be combined with other procedures?

Yes, dentures can be combined with dental implants for improved stability (implant-supported dentures) or with remaining natural teeth (partial dentures) for better functionality and appearance.

How Long?

The process typically takes 1-2 months and involves several appointments for measurements, fittings, and adjustments.

Restrictions?

Dentures should be removed at night, cleaned daily with a soft brush and denture cleaner (not regular toothpaste), and stored in water or denture solution when not in use to prevent warping.
